I saw one source that suggested as many as 1/3 of wood pulp from newspapers does come from whole trees, which means 100 acres per day, which truly is a whole forest per day.
I did the math… In 2013 there was an average newspaper print circulation of about 8,000,000 per day (http://auditedmedia.com/news/blog/top-25-us-newspapers-for-march-2013.aspx).
